My name is Emilia Dzień and I’m a first year PhD student. I’m a part of SONATA BIS project (NCN) „Antimicrobial peptide – metal interactions – understanding the relationship between coordination chemistry, structure, thermodynamics and mode of action‘. I focus on histatins - a family of histidine-rich peptides secreted by salivary glands which have the highest fungicidal activity in vitro at physiological concentrations found in saliva. My first task is a detailed thermodynamic analysis of histatins metal complexes with Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions, defining metal binding sites and complex solution structures. Next step will be biological activity studies.

I like to spend my free time in many ways, e.g. first a mountain trip and then a rest with a book, especially psychological thriller.
